TREE REMOVAL

in the City of Kirkland, WA

Who we are and why we are asking for your financial support:

Protect Kirkland Trees is a group of neighbors who stand in opposition to the development of multiple homes on a single lot in the South Rose Hill neighborhood of Kirkland, WA. For over a year we have engaged with City staff at every level to oppose the development. Unfortunately, our efforts were unsuccessful and building permits were issued in March 2024.

We are asking for donations so we can continue our appeal of the building permits in court.

The City has already hired expensive outside legal counsel after refusing to forward our valid appeal to the Kirkland Hearing Examiner. The Hearing Examiner would have afforded both parties a relatively quick and inexpensive way to adjudicate our appeal. The City is choosing to make this a long and expensive fight.

Help us reach 1,000 people willing to donate. An average donation of only $40 will meet our fundraising goal!

Please voice your support with a donation today. Then please pass this message along to a few like-minded people who will do the same.

It's on the City of Kirkland's Website:
"...in Kirkland, pruning over 25-percent of a tree's live canopy is considered the same as tree removal..."

Two large Douglas fir trees were excessively pruned by a developer prior to their permit submittal. Over 50% of the live crown was removed!
City officials did nothing.

The City of Kirkland has failed to enforce our tree protection standards.

We are raising funds to support a legal challenge.

Who are they looking out for?
City officials repeatedly declined to take code enforcement action on behalf of our community. Now they will need to answer us in court.

It's in the Kirkland Zoning Code:
"...the City will not accept a development permit for ... a period of 24 months following the most recent removal of a landmark tree."
